There Are Currently 771 Units Available Under Management by the Hidalgo County Housing Authority. These Low-income Housing Units Consist of Section 8, Public Housing, and Low-income Housing Tax Credit Properties. the Hidalgo County Housing Authority Serves the Weslaco, Metropolitan Area.
The Housing Authority of the County of Hidalgo provides low-income families and individuals with housing that is decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable. The Housing Authority of the County of Hidalgo is committed to providing opportunities for families to become self-sufficient. The County of Hidalgo Commissioner's Court passed and adopted a resolution, declaring a need for public housing on the 4th day of May 1948, and established the Housing Authority of the County of Hidalgo (HACH) pursuant to the State of Texas Housing Law (Article 1269K V.T.C.S.) The Housing Authority was initially created to serve the farm-working families and migrant families in the County. The first Farm Labor projects developed into 246 units in McAllen, TX and 289 units in Weslaco, TX. The Housing Authority has since addressed the housing needs of low-income families with additional programs, such as Public Housing, Section 8, and Family-Self Sufficiency Programs.
