There Are Currently 107 Units Available Under Management by the Saint Joseph Housing Commission. These Low-income Housing Units Consist of Section 8, Public Housing, and Low-income Housing Tax Credit Properties. the Saint Joseph Housing Commission Serves the Saint Joseph, Metropolitan Area.
The St. Joseph Housing Commission consists of five members that are appointed by the Mayor of the City of St. Joseph. The term of office is five years. All terms are alternated so that only one Board Member’s term is up each year. The Board was initially formed by the City Commission on June 11, 1964, for the purpose of developing facilities designed for senior citizens, as per provisions set forth in Act 18 of the Public Acts of 1933. The organizational meeting was held on June 29, 1964, where the by-laws and meeting dates, etc. were established. They, then, began the task of developing Lake View Terrace Highrise, the one and only facility operated by the Housing Commission. The facility was completed for residency in April, 1969.
