There Are Currently 603 Units Available Under Management by the Area Housing Commission. These Low-income Housing Units Consist of Section 8, Public Housing, and Low-income Housing Tax Credit Properties. the Area Housing Commission Serves the Pensacola, Metropolitan Area.

The Area Housing Commission was established on August 9th, 1937, after the Pensacola City council approved a resolution acknowledging the necessity for a housing authority in the city, in accordance with the United States Housing Act of 1937. This legislation aimed to offer financial aid to states and their subdivisions to eradicate slums, provide secure and suitable housing for families with lower incomes, and reduce unemployment while boosting business activity. On March 23, 1938, the Housing Authority of the City of Pensacola, Florida was formed as an independent entity, with a governing board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. At present, the Board of Commissioners consists of five members: two chosen by the Pensacola City Council, two picked by the Escambia County Board of Commissioners, and one selected from the Tenants' Association. Currently, the Area Housing Commission manages a total of 603 Public Housing units, 87 Local Housing units, 51 Multi-family units, and various properties under Section 8. These properties are spread throughout the City of Pensacola and Escambia County.
