Established in 1957, the Dayton Housing Authority initially provided 50 units of public housing to the community. Over the years, the organization has expanded its operations and now offers a total of 302 public housing units in Dayton and Decatur, Tennessee. In addition, since 1979, the Dayton Housing Authority has been responsible for managing the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program (previously known as the Section 8 Certificate Program). Currently, the organization assists 408 families residing in Rhea, Meigs, Bledsoe, and McMinn counties.
