There Are Currently 588 Units Available Under Management by the Amsterdam Housing Authority. These Low-income Housing Units Consist of Section 8, Public Housing, and Low-income Housing Tax Credit Properties. the Amsterdam Housing Authority Serves the Amsterdam, Metropolitan Area.
The Amsterdam Housing Authority was established in 1957 by residents and leaders in Amsterdam concerned about the need for clean, safe, affordable housing for senior citizens and families in the community. In 1970, the dream and vision of such housing became a reality with opening the New Amsterdam Apartments; the High Rise for senior citizens and handicapped persons and the Garden Apartments for families. Over the years, AHA has grown, adding the Stratton Apartments for senior citizens in 1976, and Section 8 Rental Assistance Program 1977. Today AHA owns 265 apartments and provide rental subsidy to over 450 low income families and senior citizens in the Amsterdam community.
